Farebrother's annual marathon charity challenge is back!

August 2023

On Thursday 5th October the entire Farebrother team will be embarking on a 22 mile walk along the Jurassic Coast from West Bay to Weymouth to raise money for Spread a Smile.

Spread a Smile brings joy and hope to seriously ill children in hospitals, hospices and homes across the UK.

Through in-person and virtual visits, their renowned entertainers – from magicians to face-painters, musicians to therapy dogs – generate moments of distraction and excitement, helping young patients and their families to face their significant health challenges with optimism and positivity.

Since their founding in 2013, they have built a reputation for developing bespoke relationships with each family and each health setting, so that they can offer the most meaningful, impactful support. They complement their main work with art initiatives, family outings and seasonal celebration events.

Click here for our Justgiving page – any donation will make a difference

  • £26 could pay for an entertainer to visit a seriously ill child at their hospital bedside.
  • £43 could give a child the opportunity to attend a Spread a Smile family event. These take place monthly and allow us to take families to the theatre trips, afternoon teas and bring some much-needed distraction from their treatment.
  • £125 could paint a child’s radiotherapy therapy mask. These are for children receiving treatment for neck, head, or brain cancer.
  • £173 could give a seriously ill child in hospital the opportunity to have a virtual Smile Party to celebrate their birthday. We provide them with an entertainer and can invite as many friends and family to help celebrate their birthday virtually whilst in isolation in hospital.

LIFE SCIENCE SECTOR BUILDS MOMENTUM

CHARITY TENNIS AFTERNOON

September 2022

We welcomed doubles teams from Hines, Clearbell Capital LLP, Argent LLP, Workthere, Capital & Counties Properties PLC plus a couple of home pairings. It was a mixed (!) afternoon of weather and with no retractable roof, we just tackled the occasional puddles with vigorous brushing.

A crowd cheered on from the fantastic terrace of Fields Bar & Kitchen. There was some very fine play across the courts, with one or two of our friends unveiling Federeresque racket skills; all hamstrings survived, the clouds parted for the final and Hines prevailed in a tight match, pipping Workthere in a tie break…

We raised a decent sum for a much deserving local charity, New Horizon Youth Centre and had a lot of fun – look out for the 2023 date !

Q1 2022 RESEARCH - A STRONG QUARTER FOR BOTH THE OCCUPATIONAL AND INVESTMENT MARKETS

April 2022

Two stand out Q1 deals underpin the market recovery in Midtown:
  • Largest pre-let in the last 30 years, as Hogan Lovells take 266,000 sq ft
  • The Google £762.5m purchase at Central Saint Giles added to the highest quarterly investment volume since Q3 2018
The first three months of most years are generally quieter but we saw the highest level of Q1 take-up for eleven years and the amount of space under offer has also increased by 53% quarter on quarter. There has been a small uptick in supply, primarily in refurbished stock with a pleasing drop in poor quality secondhand Grade B space.

We are delighted to share a summary of our market analysis here covering the first three months of 2022. We always look beyond the headline figures and if you require any more information or would like a more in-depth discussion about our research and views on the market then please do get in touch.

FAREBROTHER HAS APPOINTED CHARLIE THOMPSON AS ITS NEW MANAGING PARTNER AS IT CEMENTS ITS SUCCESSION PLANS

February 2022

Farebrother has appointed a new Managing Partner as it cements its succession plans.

As part of those plans, current Senior Partner Alistair Subba Row becomes Executive Chairman and Charlie Thompson takes up the position of Managing Partner. Between them, the duo – two of the best-known operators in the London office market – have clocked up over 55 years at the firm, which advises clients across the capital.

The 6 February was an important date in the UK for more than one reason, as not only did it mark the Queen’s 70th anniversary of her accession to the throne but it is the same day Charles Farebrother began his working life in London’s Fleet Street. Our firm, which still carries his name today, is celebrating our 223rd anniversary and we retain our independent status.

Farebrother act for a wide variety of Estates, institutions, funds, property companies as well as private and international investors. The sale of The Rolls Building in Fetter Lane, Weston House on High Holborn and the acquisition of a share of Mid City Place are three trophy investments the firm have been involved in.

Strategic advice through internal evidence-backed research lies at the core of our business. Lettings at Victoria House, Aldwych House, 1 Kingsway, Fetter Yard and numerous Estates have benefited from Farebrother advice. Equally the firm has a strong track record for advising many occupiers including charities and professional practices across London.

Charlie Thompson said: “Our advisory track record stretches beyond Midtown but it’s a part of London we love and know better than anyone else. We firmly believe that there is a place for the global and niche advisors to work alongside each other. The transaction figures speak volumes even during recent times. I’m excited about the market and taking the firm forward.”

“We have been innovative partners in the built environment for over 200 years. We have some exciting joint ventures with Union Street Partners, Tandem Property Asset Management and Square One Real Estate. We have also immersed ourselves into the development of (Midtown) Business Improvement Districts for over two decades and just look at the area now.”

Subba Row added: “We pride ourselves in careful succession planning and the timing of the change is right. I’m really excited to be working with Charlie and the team going forward. Whilst continuing to advise our clients across many areas I will also help develop the local BIDs especially the Fleet Street BID which is the last piece of the Centre of London’s regeneration jigsaw puzzle.”
